A cement mason is one of the world’s oldest trades, and experienced cement masons can make the difference of whether a project is completed on time and on budget.  If you think you might be interested in pursuing a career as a cement mason, you will need to start as an apprentice.  To find out how to become one, contact your local cement mason union or contractor associations to learn more about apprenticeship programs.

Programs include both technical training as well as on the job training.  The technical training provides instruction in the basics of concrete, concrete formwork, and concrete finishing along with construction related math skills and blueprint reading.  On the job training will include learning about the tools of the trade along with practical experience such as finishing sidewalks, curb and gutter, floor slabs, and architectural concrete.
