Need a New Water Heater? Consider Going Tankless

Need a New Water Heater? Consider Going Tankless - water heater repair and replacement - Ehret Plumbing

If you are trying to decide between water heater repair & replacement, it might be time to consider going tankless. If you only need to have your tank flushed or thermostat replaced, repairs might make sense, but if replacement is in order, look at some of the benefits of tankless systems before you buy another tank.

Instant Hot Water

When the time comes for rooter service to fix your water heater, remember that a tankless water heater only takes a second or two for hot water to be available. This is because the hot water is being generated closer to your faucets, and doesn’t have to travel all the way from your water heater. Similarly, a tankless system does not run out of hot water. The water gets cold when the stored water is used in a tank system, but tankless systems do not use reservoirs to store water so it is always available.

Tankless is More Efficient

Tankless systems do not have to reheat water while it sits idle. This makes them more energy-efficient and reduces wear on your water heating system. Tankless systems are proactive, and only heat water when there is a demand for water.

Tankless Lasts Longer

Don’t fall for any myths about how long water heaters last. A tanked system will only last for about 10 years under the best conditions. Tanks rust in damp environments, anodes corrode, and thermostats need replacing. A tankless system is more compact and has fewer parts in contact with water. As a result, tankless systems tend to last an average of 15 years and may even go as far as 20 before being replaced.

Tankless Has Fewer Components

Inline water heating doesn’t require as much support as a tanked system. Water is heating as it flows through the heating component, which eliminates the need for a tank, anodes, and other parts. The result is a compact water heating system that can go in the attic or even under a sink, and provide you with plenty of hot water for many years to come.

If your old or leaky water heater is forcing you to choose between tank or tankless water heaters, it is well worth giving a new model some consideration. It may cost a little more for the initial installation, but you will have a faster, more dependable water heater that may last for twice as long.
