Bathroom Remodel: Replacing your shower/tub combo with an all glass shower enclosure

Every home remodel is exciting. It gives you the ability to refashion your home for your needs in the coming years and update the design and features. One of the most impactful remodels is a bathroom. Whether it’s adding a new bathroom or remodeling an existing one, a bathroom remodel can dramatically change the look and feel of your home. For your update, consider including a glass shower enclosure in your new bathroom.

Why glass enclosures?

Unlike shower curtains, which can feel like barriers and make a space feel smaller, glass enclosures open up a room. They have a minimalist, visual aesthetic when compared to the designs on most shower curtains, which become the focus of the bathroom. That sort of focal point can take away from appreciating the overall design of the bathroom, including the shower itself. A glass enclosure allows you to enjoy the space of the room, making the space feel larger and detailed.

Design options available

There are several design options for glass shower enclosures. The categories include shower shape, door type, and frame style. For shower shapes, a few of the most popular are alcoves, where the shower is surrounded on three sides with the shower stall and one side of glass, and hexagonal, which are great for corners, and are five-sided, three of which are glass. For glass door types, there are hinged, like regular doors, sliding doors, and fixed. Fixed configurations have no door but have one or two sides of glass, and an open side that allow for easy entrance and exit.  Frame styles can range from frameless, which are nearly all glass, to frames that showcase different metal finishes.

Glass types

Bathroom glass can be a wide range of styles, though all shower glass is tempered which provides additional strength and safety. In the rare event of glass breaking, tempered glass will break into large, dull pieces. There is a range of styles of tempered bathroom glass, from clear glass that allows you to visualize the shower design, to tinted glass that provides complete privacy. In between these two options are frosted, designed, and rain glass, which obscure the shower, providing privacy but still allowing light in. Regardless of the design you choose, a glass shower enclosure is a great way to enhance your remodel.
