The Conco Companies continues to build
its reputation as one of the leading commercial concrete
contractors in Portland with two multi-use and multi-family residential projects in the
downtown area. As the city’s need for more residential units continues, many in
the construction and development industry are working to meet the demand with modern
designs, striking and resilient materials, and skilled workmanship. The results
are a boom to the community and to Portland’s skyline, as well as to the
portfolios of groups involved in their creation.
The Modera Glisan combines the on-trend aesthetics and function of multi-use
residential buildings with a bit of the city’s history. The L-shaped building
has a striking facade made of multiple materials like two-toned metal panels,
granite-colored brick and glass balcony railings, and occupies the better part
of a city block. It wraps itself around the historic Fire Station #3, which was
renovated as a part of the Modera Glisan project and offers a grounding juxtaposition
to the residential building, as well as a transition to the adjacent Historic
District. The project was developed by Mill Creek Resident Trust Company and
designed by SERA Design and Architecture, Inc., and provides 291 residential
units to the community, in addition to retail space on the ground level. The
Modera Glisan also includes several enticing amenities for city-dwellers, like
car and bicycle parking, a pool, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, and hammocks. Conco
provided a full range of concrete services for the project, from formwork and
shotcrete to multiple boom pumps.
14th and Glisan
Conco partnered once more with Holland Partners Group, with whom they have worked previously on projects in
Denver and Seattle, on a Portland project at 14th and Glisan. Just across the
street from the Modera Glisan, this mixed use, multi-family residential
building similarly acts as a neighborhood bridge in its style and execution,
complementing both the newer, modern-looking high-rises as well as the bygone
character of the buildings of the Historic District. The designers worked to achieve this effect in multiple ways, such as the tiered
height of the 14th and Glisan project, which is shorter on the section that
abuts the Historic District, so as not to tower over the older, more diminutive
buildings. For this project, Conco expects to place 16,000 cubic yards of
concrete and provided concrete pumping, reinforcement, formwork, shotcrete, and
finishing, all within a 10 month schedule.
The Conco Companies’ mission is to be
the best supplier of concrete services in the Western U.S. and to bring
expertise and incomparable quality to each project. We continue to upgrade and
expand our facilities to better serve the growing market for commercial,
