A Quick Guide to Unique Windows for Your Business

Your business can stand out by doing more than offering the best products and services. It can look the best with decorative windows that let in as much light as they look gorgeous. Windows have two major components: the frame and the glass. When you replace your windows, you can completely change up the design by having your commercial glass replacement contractor install a new frame and glass type that will impress your customers.

Here’s a quick overview of the unique frames and glass types you can install:

Window Frames (and Shapes)

  • Arched windows resemble the top half of a circle.

  • Radius windows combine a rectangular glass panel with an arched panel.

  • Round windows are circles of glass.

  • Picture windows are fixed and do not open.

  • Bay windows have three pieces: a middle piece of glass and two side pieces. Only the side pieces open, while the middle piece is fixed.

  • Horizontal Sliding windows open from the middle and slide left or right.

  • Casement windows are hinged at the side and use a hand crank to open outwards like a door.

  • Double Hung windows have two sashes and can open from the bottom or the top.

  • Single Hung windows have two sashes, with the top one fixed and the bottom one able to slide up and down or tilt outward.

Window Glass

  • Textured glass lets you bring natural light into your business while maintaining a sense of privacy and intimacy. There are many different types of texture, with some resembling the crinkled texture of leaves and others the fine lines of tree bark, and some glass makers can customize the texture’s strength. Stronger textures will further warp visibility and stand out more as artwork.

  • Etched glass offers privacy through opaque designs etched onto the glass. The glass can be either textured or clear, but people typically use clear glass. Some glass makers can even etch your business logo onto your storefront glass.

  • Stained glass is a simple way to add pop to your business, even with a single pane of one color. Specialized glass makers can create custom color patterns or images.

  • Custom glass is a unique option because no two panes of glass are alike. Glass makers can customize the design to your liking, and incorporate a variety of textures and colors.

Designing Unique Windows

When replacing your old windows with decorative glass, your commercial glass contractor will work with glass manufacturers or designers. If you want a highly customized window, be prepared for close coordination with glass designers and a higher price. Pre-made or standardized decorative glass will be quicker to install, as the panes will likely already be in stock. Decorative glass can have higher purchase and installation costs than standard glass, but the investment is worth the delight you’ll get from your customers.
